Salem S3PT - Salem
Automation's Unique Personnel Tracking System
With its
substantial experience designing and engineering plant-wide, computer
based safety and control systems for industry and the world’s major oil
and gas producers, Salem Automation has designed and developed a unique,
flexible personnel tracking and administration system for the offshore
environment – Salem S3PT . The powerful, user-configurable
system, which operates across any configuration of platforms to precisely
determine identities and numbers of personnel within different platform
areas, also interfaces with shore-based heliports and platform
administration systems to confirm personnel / freight manifests aboard
scheduled helicopter flights to and from platforms.
Features
-
A
unique system for tracking personnel in hazardous environments.
-
A
non-contact, hands free system using an unlimited number of passive
transponder identification tags in conjunction with antennae and
readers; it is a radio frequency identification package (RFID)
certified for use in hazardous areas.
-
The
powerful, user-configurable suite of programs, which operates across
any configuration of platforms, support vessels, drilling rigs etc,
precisely determines identities and numbers of personnel within
different platform areas. Salem S3PT also links with
shore based heliports and platform administration systems to confirm
personnel/freight manifests aboard scheduled helicopter flights to
and from platforms etc.
-
Primarily
a safety related system, Salem S3PT assists the
management of personnel in the event of an incident.
Salem S3PT maintains a real-time , comprehensive personnel-on-board listing
capable of determining the location of individual personnel and
their arrival at muster stations.
-
To
comply with statutory requirements, the system interfaces to
separately based onshore, stand by computer facilities to provide a
mirror image of details on the offshore locations.
-
Salem
S3PT can operate on single or networked computers and uses
proven server hardware and user-configurable windows-environment
software developed by Salem’s software engineers.

PTS-Web Server Architecture
The major software components of the PTS Web server
are:
-
Microsoft Windows 2000 professional Operating
System.
-
Oracle 9i Database.
-
Oracle 9i Application Server, including OC4J
Web Server.
The PTS-software has been written with Oracle
Jdeveloper 9i R3 and utilises Java technology. Primarily Java Servlets
are used because of their flexibility and power. Servlets allow complex
functions, calculations and database calls to be performed on the web
server transparent to the user who only sees the generated web pages.
Java Applets are utilised where data is constantly updating and is
complex and graphically demanding, for example on overview maps.
Client side JavaScript is used to validate and
control data entry, printing and other similar functionality as it doesn’t
require page refreshes and is therefore fast and can easily relate to
the browser as well as the HTML code.
PTS Clients
PTS-Clients can be based on any Microsoft Windows
operating system that can support IE5.5 or higher. Clients require the
Java plug-in (International version 1.4.1_01) due to applets being used
(Java 2 support is not included in current versions of IE). This plug-in
is freely available from Sun Microsystems and will enhance Browsers to
support the latest Java version. The plug-in also makes debugging of all
Java errors simpler and improves the quality of support that is offered.
